Safety information for golfing in extreme heat:
Well thanks a lot Mother Nature, you finally waive the rainclouds and bring us Arizona hot temps! Next week's golf nights look much like tonight. The good news is - no rain! The bad news is - it gonna be hot ladies. For me, I will play when it is hot, I will not play when I am wet, but every person is different. Information for next week:
1) Only you know if physical activity when it is in the 90's feels good for you and whether or not your body is healthy enough to endure that kind of workout. You should NEVER feel pressured to play at Geist Golf; always your call.
2) Hydration seems obvious, but we mean it. Don't wait until you get to the course to start drinking water. Keep that going all day and maybe something with electrolytes (gatorade) may be even better. Bring plenty of water with you.
3) Dress appropriately. Light colored, loose-fitting, and breathable clothing. Moisture wicking fabrics help keep you dry and cool.
4) Hats and sunglasses are a must for this heat. Don't forget them.
5) Seek shade often especially between shots.
6) Take frequent breaks and feel free to "skip" a hole for a longer rest.
7) I've never been able to manage an umbrella on the course but I see other women do it. If it's for you - bring it.
8) Many women bring "cooling towels" in a cooler. Damp towels in a baggie on ice to switch out around your neck.
9) Most importantly know the signs of heat exhaustion (dizzyness, nausea, headache).
10) Sunscreen - Apply sunscreen generously and reapply frequently, especially if sweating.

Some Geist Golfers brought a friend or found a friend to partner with last year. Some of the best times we enjoyed were mixing pairs. If you don't select a partner, you'll be paired each week.
